Oshun Press was started by Karen E. Quinones Miller, who originally self-published her first book, Satin Doll, in 1999 and sold 3,000 copies in six weeks -- and ultimately 28,000 copies in eight months! Publishing rights for Satin Doll was ultimately sold – at auction – to Simon & Schuster in June 2000 in a six-figure deal.
Miller then went on to use Oshun Publishing Co., -- the company she set up to publish Satin Doll – to publish other authors, including Daaimah S. Poole, who went on to sign with Kensington Book, where she’s had seven books published since 2000.
But Miller also saw the need for a company that would assist individuals in doing what she originally did -- gain the satisfaction, and maintain the control, that only self-publishing can offer. Oshun Press is perfect for those authors who refuse to be relegated to just receiving a pittance of the money made from their own creativity because the bulk of the cash goes to their publisher.
